Question by 2muchmetal41hand: School bus hit my vehicle, accepted liability, asked me to use nearby shop for repairs and they pay, why should I?
A school bus hit my auto. There were witnesses, a police report, etc. I placed a claim with my insurance. Bus Co. accepts full liability. They call me and ask if I would go to a local shop they use for repairs and they pay for it “to keep away from going by way of insurance.” Also told me the shop “has loaner vehicles.”

I speak to my insurance and they say I can either do this or go by means of my insurance for repairs, I will not be negatively affected (my rates won’t alter) since bus co. accepted liability. My deductable is waived, my ins. organization pays for repairs, guarantees the work if I decide on a preferred shop and I have rental coverage.

My question is…even if I am comfortable with the shop the bus co. suggested (I nonetheless have to investigation), why would I want to do do this? Out of the goodness of my heart? What’s in it for them? They pay for my minor repairs rather than report this to their insurance/pay a hefty deductible/raise their rates…Is there something in it for me?
