The five things you must ask yourself before considering public liability insurance are as follows:

  • What is public liability insurance?
  • Does your company need public liability insurance?
  • How do you get public liability insurance?
  • What is the Cost of public liability insurance?
  • How does public liability insurance claim occur?

What Is Public Liability Insurance?

The liability insurance for accidental body injury or damage to third party properties , which is designed to cover businesses from the risk of being sued by the public, is known as public liability insurance. This form of insurance is very important for every business that welcomes customers, members of the public, and clients to their business premises. Also in some places it is a key requirement before any business can be authorized to open to the public.

Does Your Company Need Public Liability Insurance?

This insurance does not cover third party claims like employee claims. The employers liability insurance takes care of your employee insurance. Always make sure that your insurance company understands your type of business and also inform them when your business circumstance changes. This way they will be able to design an appropriate public liability insurance policy for your business.

How Does A Public Liability Insurance Claim Occur?

Public liability insurance instances occur daily, e.g., in a dry cleaning business, a client comes into your shop to pick his clothes and suddenly trips on a loose piece of flooring in your office. If the client claims Ffor injuries obtained as a result of an un-maintained floor, the public liability insurance will cover your business.
A further clear instance of liability insurance is for a self-employed IT support engineer, who while in a client office, accidentally knocks over a coffee cup, pouring the contents on the back of a computer and damaging it beyond repair as a result. The public liability insurance will cover all claims from the client for damages.

What Is The Cost Of A Public Liability Insurance?

The cost of public liability insurance for your company will depend on the size of your business.  Many small businesses may have a large insurance coverage up to the tune of one million dollars, however the premiums are usually not high despite the huge insurance coverage. This will better be appreciated if there is a sudden rush of claims against your business with the costs mounting up.

How Do You Get A Public Liability Insurance?

Getting public liability insurance for your business is easy. There are a lot of places online where one can easily get a free quote for this insurance. Just search for public liability insurance in your favorite search engine and you will be presented with websites where you can get the quote. This will also enable you to compare quotes from many companies so that you can make a best choice.

So if you are really desirous of keeping your business in business, then you should consider getting public liability insurance. With this you can protect yourself and your business from the claims that would be made by the public by acts of negligence in the course of running your business.  The prices for this insurance will always vary as the risk factors may vary for different business situations and the different insurers will charge differently according to their company policies.
So do you want a long lasting business? Then you must have a protection for your business. This allows your business to run better and smoothly while you worry less. A business that is protected,  and given proper care and attention to every business detail, should last for a very long time.

You are flat out NOT going to get coverage for contractual liability, oral contracts. Ain’t gonna happen.

And you’re not going to get professional liability, without naming which LICENSED profession you’re trying to insure.

Coverage is BASED on gross sales, or payroll, or the number of licensed professionals – none of which you mentioned.

For an advertising agency, you need to budget a minimum of $5,000 for insurance. But there’s nowhere NEAR enough information for a "real" quote – it could be ten or a hundred times that, depending on a wide variety of factors that you flat out didn’t mention.

      Company and Personal Insurance Liability?

I have a pre-employment DMV check and have three driving offenses (within 3 years – 2xSpeeding 1xAccident at fault). Prior to the 3 years I have a few more speeding tickets and another accident. The job requires 40% driving with a company car. I’m afraid that they will not hire me based on my DMV record. Is there a way to transfer liability from the business to myself..? Possibly driving my own car with some sort of extended insurance that relieves liability off of the company? What can I do to avoid the company from not hiring me based on my record?
How much would picking up commercial coverage cost?… Rough est please? Also the current accident will drop off in october and it’s been over a yera since my last ticket.

You are probably screwed with getting a job there then. Trying to get additional coverage for business driving with your record on your own will be a HUGE amount.

Cheaper to have an attorney look at your past record and try to get some points off some how. Not cheap and time consuming.

First thing to realize is that your "DMV record" is a good indicator to insurance companies and to future employers as to what kind of person you are behind the wheel. Change that record and you’ll appear to be a much more likely candidate to them.

The problem is, I can’t find out the cost of insurance unless I fill out a form and wait to be contacted by an actual insurance agent. I’m not really forming a business. So I was just wondering, how much would each insurance generally cost?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! :]

Now.. if I’m working as a health care worker and it is an OPTION for me to get liability insurance provided by my professional college, is the liability insurance tax deductible?

          No, it must be required.

If you are a contract worker, i.e. self-employed, the insurance would be an expense claimed against your income on Form T2125.

If you are salaried, you are covered under your employer’s liability policy and therefore having your own insurance is considered non-essential by CRA, therefore non-deductible.

Specifically, "no personal liability" is in the small print refererring to the cover i get for Surfing. Does this mean i am covered if I accidently hurt myself, but i’m not covered if I accidently hurt someone else? Any insurance experts around?

Can anyone recommend a good insurance company for travel?

Answer 1 seems correct you are not covered if you cause damage to person or property. Regarding company to choose I would recommend Columbus especially for longer trips 28 days + Higher amounts of cover than many others plus optional covers. Avoid travel agents like the plague poor cvover and over priced. Use a broker or deal directly with an insurer. Regarding refererring in your question is that a spelling mistake or a freudian slip.
            Happy hols bru.

                Define cheap.

There isn’t much competition out there for medical malpractice, the rates are all pretty much the same. The biggest difference is in the tail or retroactive date – so if one policy is drastically lower than another, you can be pretty darned sure that you’re giving up coverage somewhere.

Do I need Personal Liability Insurance ?

I have a home office and will be acting as an Independent Sales Agent for an IT Consulting Company. Currently I have a Homeowners Policy in the amount of $545,000, and ample full coverage on both of my vehicles. One of the requests made by the company I am going to be acting as an Independent Agent for, is to carry a Personal Liability Policy (minimum amount of $100,000). There will be no customers or clients entering my home. All of my work is performed via a phone line (both land line and cell), and a PC/Laptop for eMail and internet access. Do I need to carry a PL policy, or is my Homeowners Policy sufficient enough?
                  Please reply to: resumes@roichicago.com

Your homeowners policy will not provide you any coverage on this business exposure. What you do need is a Professional Liability Policy (also known as Malpractice Policy or Errors & Omissions Insurance). This type of policy will provide coverage in case someone sues you for advising them to purchase the wrong type of service or product and they subsequently suffer loss as a result of that advice. The policy will usually provide for payment of defense costs and will pay the judgement if you are found to be liable.

I would also recommend (and the Underwriter who writes the Professional Liability Policy might require) that you obtain a Commercial General Liability for third party damages that you might cause–i.e. you cause some one to slip and fall while out on a sales call.

The other consideration is if you use your personal vehicle to make sales calls–you should notify your personal auto carrier, they might just add the additional mileage and classification for sales calls and give you the coverage or the might tell you that they can no longer write the account and you will then need to purchase a commercial automobile policy. What you do not want is to end up with an accident that the insurance company later denies because they won’t cover the business exposure.

In terms of finding a company that you will look over your situation and see what you need to be in compliance and give you the necessary quotes, I would find a local independent insurance agent that specializes in Commercial Insurance — you might want to check agents that represent Travelers Insurance or CNA since they both have some great Technology policies that will combine both the Professional Liability and the Commercial General Liability in one policy. The other option is a company call Apogee–they are wholesale underwriters that also offer a combined package option and should be able to refer you to an agent that represents them locally.

I hope this helps. Good Luck!
